It does contain some of the greatest games ever made, after all. The series has its highs and lows, but the potential will always remain. With a hardcore following across the globe that hotly anticipates all upcoming entries - no matter where it's a mainline instalment or spin-off - Capcom has a mainstay on its hands that won't be going anywhere any time soon. For a series predicated upon the overwhelming power of love and loyalty, I can’t see why Capcom wouldn’t hold a vested interest in reuniting and reimagining Zero. The Resident Evil series is one of gaming's most popular and recognisable franchises, dating back to the PlayStation 1 and encompassing more than 25 years of history. To this day, when I see Rebecca salute Billy, I still bawl my eyes out like a little baby. Even if it hadn’t been executed in the smoothest way, there was something so engaging about Rebecca’s ability to see Billy for something other than what the world had made him out to be, while simultaneously unlocking the potential in herself that she didn’t know was there. Isn’t that what made unlocking them so fun? That feeling of, gosh, I can’t go an entire playthrough looking like a dude out of the Yakuza series and a chick in a confused, Victorian era-esque nurse’s outfit, but hell if I don’t try!Īll that being said, it’d be kind of silly for Capcom to continue sitting on Rebecca and Billy in their current universe. That could be cool, maybe, and pose a potential threat or infection to Rebecca and Billy, making them more durable, as Ethan Winters grew to be.Īnd, I’d really appreciate a litany of quirky costumes. Again, I thought RE3R did this quite well, and I think Zero would have many opportunities to elaborate on situations that felt more panicked.Īs for dropping the Opera Slugs, yeah, that’d probably be a hard sell now a days, unless it was reworked to be more like the mold in RE7, in which case the slugs are controlled through neurological infestation. If I could have my druthers, the reimagining of Zero would ditch many of the factors that made the game stiff, such as the lengthy times spent organizing inventory, and streamline the gameplay throughout with the same sense of urgency that’s felt on the opening train scene. Rebecca and Billy have one of the most potentially interesting relationships in the series, and it would be really fun, in the same vein as Jill and Carlos in RE3R, to see Rebecca and Billy interacting with one another in a way that begins with hesitancy from external surroundings and then, through demonstrated good intention, develops into a ride-or-die friendship. Zero should totally have a reimagining to it. Well done! In particular, that image of Rebecca fending off the slug fella looks like promo art. Firstly, the concepts here are incredible.
